Why they joined:

  • Got 6 cents a day

  • Seen as a journey of life

  • Believed there was a duty

  • They would get fame

  • More friends

  • The propaganda persuaded them

  • Would be a challenge that needed to be explored

  • Looked like fun

  • They would be home in no time, not a long war at all

  • They thought could sleep and rest whenever

  • Wanted to be apart of the group, no man left behind

  •         Many people joined the war because of all the appealing varieties of media, some of which included movies, magazines, articles, radio, political speeches and of course posters. The posters usually had different types of the same thing including,  women and they were very good looking, all stated that war was the best thing in the world and saying that there would be rewards including women and money. The political speeches were made very well that it persuaded people in a way that they would never suspect anything different. Articles were written that made war seem better than the life all the people were living.
All of the ways propaganda was distributed was mostly targeted to younger individuals, politicians and writers. Pamphlets were used to most in the beginning and were given out to many countries. From when the war started until June 1915 there was 2.5 million copies of pamphlets going around everywhere and in many languages. Only about eight months later there was 7 million.

The British propagandists wanted to show the foreign press and give information using Neutral Press committee and the Office. The telegraph companies were authorized in many different European cities some of which included Bucharest, Bilbao and Amsterdam which spread propaganda. There was also newspapers that were produced by the Wellington House which than made the Germans more for it.

Film was almost the last to bring out propaganda. The Wellington House asked for it right after the war's outbreak, only the problem was it was overruled by War Office. In 1915 film was just getting into action. The first film was called Britain Prepared, it was made in December of 1915. It showed British courage and dedication. August 1916 the film Battle of the Somme was being shown.

Recruitment made propaganda until Conscription came out in January of 1916. Patriotism was a main part of the posters and it appealed to many so the people would do their part. Many of the posters said “Lord Kitchener Wants You.” Other posters stated “Remember Scarborough” which brought the 1914 attack on Scarborough.
