Propaganda and Women

Propaganda encouraged everyone to Join the military, Buy war bonds, Use less fuel, Eat less meat and Support the Government.

Women use in propaganda started early in the war, because of posters they promoted the war. It stated that it defended women and children. The French responded to Germany by saying “Rape of Belgium.” Belgium women were the role of victims that needed to be saved. There was one type of poster that stood out, it had a women holding a rifle in front of Belgium which was burning and the poster stated “Will you go or must I.”

Women were put on posters to recruit during the war, which than put moral pressure on men to join or they would be not considered a man. Women had to give out white feathers due to Britian's white feather campaign. The feathers were a symbol of the men that did not go to war and acted like cowards. These feathers were supposed to persuade men to want to join the war. If you joined the war, some of the posters had attractive women that would be a reward for the men when they returned.

Women were easy and most targeted by propaganda. As the war was beginning the posters were to tell people to be proud and calm of the men that went to fight. As the war was going on the posters began to explain the men were expected to go to war and support the nation. Women then became a big part of representing the nation. Britanna and Marianne were appeared as propaganda symbols.
